Orioles Aren't Serious Contenders For Yoenis Cespedes

Dec 30, 2015 9:11 PM

The Baltimore Orioles aren't believed to be serious contenders to sign Yoenis Cespedes at this point.

"I checked around yesterday and didn't get the sense that the Orioles are remotely close to a deal. I'm told by one source that a contract proposal hasn't even been presented to ownership," writes Roch Kubatko of MASN.

Baltimore certainly isn't going to pay Cespedes well north of $100 million, which is what he was projected to receive at the start of free agency.

White Sox Haven't Closed Door On Re-Signing Alexei Ramirez

Dec 30, 2015 8:34 AM

The Chicago White Sox have added a pair of infielders this offseason, but they haven't closed the door on re-signing Alexei Ramirez.

Ramirez, 34, is still a free agent. The belief is that the White Sox will use the rest of their budget on an outfielder.

If the season started today, Tyler Saladino would be the starting shortstop, according to Rick Hahn. That could change if they opt to bring back Ramirez.

Alex Gordon Denies Report Royals Have 'No Chance' To Re-Sign Him

Jan 4, 2016 1:04 AM

Alex Gordon has denied a CBS Sports report that the Kansas City Royals have "no chance" to re-sign him.

Gordon told the Lincoln Journal Star and the Omaha World Herald on Monday there was "no truth," to the report that the Royals have no chance to sign him.

"Right now I'm unemployed and I pay an agent 4 percent to make the calls, take the calls and let me know what's going on," he said.

The Royals drafted Gordon second overall in 2005.

"Right now I'm talking with a lot of teams," Gordon said. "I just want to make the best decision for me and my family."

Gordon added: "The Royals are still in the mix. I know what's going on behind the scenes, and I'm dealing with it the best I can."

Yoenis Cespedes Could Be Pursued By Tigers

Dec 28, 2015 2:36 PM

While there is no evidence that the Detroit Tigers will pursue Yoenis Cespedes, the perception around baseball is that the club is in the mix to sign the free-agent outfielder.

Reports have indicated that the price to sign Cespedes is dropping as the offseason progresses.

Al Avila has not said anything pointing to an acquisition, ruling out a big signing in leftfield "at this point" during the winter meetings and two weeks later saying, "I think we've made all of our big moves."
